About the DC + Franklin County gun safety / violence prevention program
What is this program all about? The DC + Franklin County gun safety / violence prevention program aims to strengthen connections between Washington, DC and Franklin County, PA by taking joint action on gun safety and violence prevention.
Who gets to participate? ~20 civically minded residents (~10 in Franklin County, ~10 in DC) associated with a firearms organization (e.g., gun shop, shooting range) or a violence prevention organization
What are the key program activities? Participants will take part in:
Sept. 7, 2019, Franklin County: Influence skills workshop at Frontier Club
Sept. 28, 2019, Washington DC: Project design workshop
Sept. 2019 - August 2020, both locations: Implementing a project to achieve key goals identified by participants
What commitment is required from participants? Full participation in the above activities and a genuine effort to create a positive experience for all.
What commitment is UR Action making?
We will convene a group of participants with roughly equal representation from DC and Franklin County with various levels of diversity (ideological, racial, sex, age, experiences with guns, etc).
We will ensure all voices have an opportunity to be heard.
We will focus on the collaboration process and shared understanding without pushing for agreement or specific outcomes.
Is there a fee to participate? No, all expenses are paid for. Participants are responsible only for their own transportation and expenses. When is the registration deadline? Sunday, July 26, 2019 at 11:59 pm Eastern.
