About the gun safety / violence prevention program
What is this program all about? The DC + Franklin County, PA + Adams County, PA gun safety / violence prevention program aims to strengthen connections between Washington, DC; Franklin County, PA; and Adams County, PA by taking joint action on gun safety and violence prevention.
Who gets to participate? ~12-20 civically minded residents associated with a firearms organization (e.g., gun shop, shooting range) or a violence prevention organization
What are the key program activities? Participants will take part in:
Sept. 7, 2019: Influence skills workshop in Waynesboro, PA
Sept. 28, 2019: Project design workshop in Washington, D.C.
Sept. 2019 - August 2020: Implementing a project to achieve key goals identified by participants
What commitment is required from participants? Full participation in the above activities and a genuine effort to create a positive experience for all.
What commitment is UR Action making?
We will convene a group of participants with roughly equal representation from DC and southern PA with various levels of diversity (ideological, racial, sex, age, experiences with guns, etc).
We will ensure all voices have an opportunity to be heard.
We will focus on the collaboration process and shared understanding without pushing for agreement or specific outcomes.
Is there a fee to participate? No, though participants are responsible for their own transportation. When is the registration deadline? Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 11:59 pm Eastern.
