What is this project about? The Uniting for Action: Pennsylvania program formed an Education group to help solve social justice issues in Pennsylvania. Our focus is on addressing inequities of public school funding in the Commonwealth.
Why are we focused on inequitable school district funding in PA?
PA ranks last of all 50 states in giving additional funding to school districts in poverty
The inequity of funding shows clear racial bias
There is a high correlation among educational attainment, health outcomes, and economic achievement. More equitable funding can yield significant improvements in these three areas to make Pennsylvania more competitive and prosperous.
Why write letters? Elected officials in PA's General Assembly, particularly Senator Bob Mensch in PA's 24th District, need to hear from voters on this topic. This is a simple way for you to contribute to the cause.
How can you contribute?
Read our letter (click Download File below), adapt it as you wish, and send it to Senator Bob Mensch (see contact information in the letter).
Use our form letter to organize a letter-writing campaign with family, friends, and/or colleagues.
Tune into Episode 4 of the Areas of Agreement podcast by journalist Elia Powers to hear about this team's efforts to address funding disparities in K-12 schools in urban and rural communities in the Commonwealth.
