Uniters' Public Statements

Uniters Condemn Political Violence

Updated April 27, 2026

We are a politically diverse group of Americans around the country who have worked together across lines of difference to make our communities safer, stronger, and more resilient to acts of violence. As such, we unequivocally condemn the April 25 shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, and in its wake we are reissuing below our statement against all political violence first published in September 2025.

Original statement:

We condemn in the strongest possible terms the assassination of Charlie Kirk. We further condemn the assassination of Representative Melissa Hortman in June. We condemn the murders of Representative Hortman’s husband and United HealthCare CEO Brian Thompson, the attempted murders of Senator John Hoffman and his wife, and the assassination attempts on President Trump. Sadly, the list could go on. This must stop.

Our nation thrives when citizens engage in a robust exchange of opinions in a free marketplace of ideas. Our work together, which has led to concrete positive action in our communities as well as to enduring relationships across lines of political difference, demonstrates that such a nation is still possible. We are committed to mutual respect for each individual’s humanity, to using dialogue to understand perspectives different from our own, and to moving forward together. We are stronger when we engage each other with open minds and hearts. Even when our differences seem unresolvable, we can and do seek a path forward through conversation and cooperation, understanding that we are all working for the same ultimate goal: a healthy and vibrant America. Violence has no place in that.

We invite our fellow Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs to join us in committing to and working together on this stronger, safer, and ultimately more patriotic path.
