Our Approach
Local action for national impact.
In Uniting for Action Local Hubs, we bring Americans together across divides for:
01
Civic participation programs that tackle an important local challenge
02
Community skill-building workshops
03
Leadership initiatives that make institutions more responsive and trustworthy
Local UR Action leaders facilitate this process using a suite of accessible, memorable, and proven tools including our ABCs of Constructive Conversation, Seven Elements of Joint Problem-Solving, Problem Tree Analysis, and Project Design Process. Below is a sample of our Uniting for Action toolkit.

Participating community members (Uniters) are empowered to design and implement a project with support from a local anchor institution (Community Partner), ensuring the sustainability of their intervention.
The ABCs of Constructive Conversation
When we view dialogue across difference as a competition, we tend to engage unconstructively, fueling frustration and damaging relationships.
When we view dialogue across difference as a collaboration opportunity, we engage more constructively, contributing to deeper understanding of different views and stronger relationships.

Problem Tree Analysis
We create Problem Trees to help us analyze complex societal problems across systems and identify opportunities to effect positive change.

1
Define the problem.
One core statement.
2
Map out effects of the problem.
Consider economic, political, social, and environmental effects.
3
Map out causes of the problem.
Consider economic, political, social, and environmental causes.
4
Map out available resources that can be harnessed to address a problem cause.
Consider the strengths of your team and who is working on similar challenges
5
Identify a single cause to focus on.
Consider causes that contribute significantly to the status quo and that can be addressed through team strengths and available resources.
